Thursday, July 23, 2009 The atmosphere here at the Kentucky Horse Park is buzzing! Not only have the 2009 North American Junior Young Riders Championships commenced, but the construction for the 2010 World Equestrian Games is well under way and a concurrent Hunter/Jumper competition is also taking place. On top of all that a polo competition took place this evening! It was bumper-to-bumper and police orchestrated traffic to try to get out of there after 9pm tonight! This is the 6th year I have volunteered to travel with the Ontario Three Day Event Team as the team veterinarian. As a 2-time former team member I really enjoy giving back to the experience for the up-and-coming athletes. Busy scheduling of all the rings saw the CCI** dressage starting with the first rider at 8:45pm and the last rider beginning her test at 3 minutes to 11! Lucky thing for the new stadium and it's lighting... The first day of competition has already brought 2 bronze medals for both the Ontario dressage team and an Ontario individual - a great start! CCI* dressage begins first thing in the morning. Stay tuned for updates as the competition unfolds... |
