Hay Allergy

Topic: Respiratory Issues
Tuesday, August 31, 2010

Over the past 4 months my 7 y/o WB mare had had approx 4 allergic reactions, all at night just after evening hay. She is fed the same hay morning and afternoon as well as outside as needed. Her attacks include increased lung sounds, no fever, abdominal breathing, digging and minor muscle tremors all over, mostly in the facial areas and shoulders. My vets say it is likely an allergic reaction to something in the hay. I understand allergy testing is an option but is quite expensive and often does not pin point the exact allergen. Is there anything you can recommend for her diet that we can change/eliminate?
