Read The Answer!DDFT Tear
Topic: LamenessWednesday, April 28, 2010"Thermal camera showed no heat in LH flexor tendons just below curb area of hock. Evidence of old tear of DDFT as well as scarring consistant with history. No fresh tears although some edema within sheath. Recommend to start slowly back into work"
Basically the vet thought it was an old injury and was not concerned about it. This was back in August. I Started with a week of walking for half hour under saddle last week and then added 5-10 minutes of trotting this week. There is now some heat in the area. Have I gone to fast or is this a normal reaction? Should I continue with work or back off again. Horse is not lame and has been turned out daily in field since initial injury.

Read The Answer!Fiber Sand Footing
Topic: LamenessSunday, April 11, 2010I was wondering if you have seen any new types of injuries with horses exercising or jumping regularly on the new sand/fiber footing that many places are switching to. Read The Answer!Fat Pony
Topic: Feeding and Health ManagementSunday, April 11, 2010We've owned our pony 2 years now (she's 8 years old). We moved her to a new stable in April where she gets individual hay but we've since cut out her grain. It was almost overnight that she seemed to gain a significant amount of weight. I doubt she's pregnant (but you never know) and so I'm wondering what might cause her to gain weight so quickly. She seems happy and her behaviour is the same as always. Any suggestions?
Read The Answer!Tender Soles
Topic: Hoof and Foot lamenessSaturday, April 10, 2010Do you have any suggestions for horses/ponies that always seem to have sore soles? I don't mean the horse that gets bruises when we have the freeze/thaw mud ruts in spring, but those that are permanently tender.
Can anything be done to permanently toughen up their feet? I don’t jump, don’t ride on the road, have regular farrier care and have incredibly tough hoof walls, but the pony’s soles are very sensitive and bruise easily. I would prefer barefoot, but that does not seem to be an option for her!
